Exclusive: BSG Stud Joins Smallville as Doomsday!
I’m once again pushing the pause button on my work hiatus to bring you some major casting news — this time on Smallville.
My increasingly itchy moles report that Sam Witwer, best known to Battlestar Galactica fans as ex-Raptor ECO Alex “Crashdown” Quartararo, has been tapped to play the series regular role of Doomsday. Additionally, relative newcomer Cassidy Freeman is joining the cast as Tess, a sexy and vengeful firecracker with whom Lex hires to run his empire in his absence. Ironically, the actress’ most recent credit was the failed CW pilot Austin Golden Hour — starring none other than Green Arrow himself, Justin Hartley (who’s back on Smallville full time next season).
In depth descriptions of both characters have been posted below to refresh your memory.
Doomsday: Real name: Davis Bloome. He’s in his mid-20s. He works as a bartender at the hip new Metropolis lounge Ace of Clubs. He plays down his smoldering good looks with a self-effacing wit and down-to-earth soulfulness. But he has long felt like an outsider (hence his nickname). And beneath his charismatic, easy-going demeanor lies a brooding sense of isolation and insecurity. When he begins to delve into the haunting mysteries of his true origins, a darker truth begins to emerge, one of blood and serial murders, one of survival and utter destruction - one in which he is forced to confront the true evil inside of him.”
Tess: Drop-dead gorgeous.Roughly 28 years old. She’s determined, sexy, vengeful and has super-strength. “While Lex is away, she is in control of his estate and rules it with aggression. She’s had intellect and the confidence all her life, though it’s obvious she’s had some training from Lex as well. But as much as Lex has helped fortify her power, he is also her biggest weakness. She harbors an undying devotion to Lex, claiming he saved her life a few years ago. She carries out his wishes with coercion, force, seduction - anything to get what she wants. And no one can resist her beguiling ways. Even Clark Kent. She doesn’t remember anything before the day she met Lex. Once she realizes her previous life is buried below the surface, she’s desperate to dig it up.”
In other, non-Smallville casting news, Camille Guaty (fka Prison Break’s Maricruz) has been added to the cast of Rob Thomas’ Cupid reboot. She’ll play Lita.
Hey, it just dawned on me — July 2 is just 13 days away! Woo-hoo!

Awesome thanks for the scoop Michael!!!

Ugh CF is so not drop dead gorgeous. The pickings must have been slim with the actress’ for Tess.
Thanks for the scoop MA.

Oh….soooooo….they’re just gonna rip-off the Hulk?
Really?
…..Really?!
June 19th, 2008 at 6:58 am
THE HULK? Not a comics fan, huh? Doomsday is a well known Superman villain. Comparing him to the Hulk is just kinda weird. About the only comparison is that both Bloome and Banner change. If that is enough to make any character a rip off of another, then both rip off Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.

It “just dawned on you?” Haven’t you been counting the hours, nay seconds, like the rest of us?
Anthony Kiedis? Seriously? You are WAY sexier than he is.
I gotta go with the other complainers who say that it’s absurd to cast ultimate-archenemy Doomsday when Clarkie can’t even fly yet. I don’t mind the “no tights” rule, but the “no flights” rule should’ve gone by the wayside a couple of years ago.

Looking forward to seeing Witwer as Darth Vader’s secret apprentice in Star Wars: The Force Unleashed.
NOT looking forward to seeing Witwer as “Doomsday”.
Seriously, Smallville people, just put it out of its misery.
June 19th, 2008 at 10:42 am
Not bad, First he is Vader’s apprentice now he is the beign that ultimately kills the last son of Krypton. Cant wait to see how they go with the character

Note to crazy people….. Doomsday never did kill superman he was just in a coma and his heart beat droped so….WHO CARES
And smallville is not a bad show
Sure clark should fly by now and laura vandervoot should be doing something more fun but hey ho

What? Hasn’t anyone seen Doomsday? Doomsday is what he is full-time. He’s evolved over centuries. He’s a massive killing machine that can’t be killed. There’s no changing into a person. Frankly, Doomsday should kill Smallville’s Clark without any problem.
I can see how the comparison to the Hulk was made.
Oh, this is really disappointing. I thought Doomsday was going to show up and stomp around Metropolis for a while. There would be a two- or even three-part episode. Clark would deal with him in some non-permanent way and then he’d show up again for the series finale. Then, Clark puts on the cape, takes care of Doomsday, and that’s a wrap.
Seriously, read the Wikipedia entry about Doomsday.

You are still the greatest, can’t wait till you get back to work full time!

@Qua
Pffff. Cassidy Freeman is fabulous and most definitely drop-dead gorgeous. And did I mention fabulous? You’ll change your mind soon enough

what the hell. ive been watching smallville since season one and i gotta say the show has kind sucked since season 5. Doomsday is a big monster that gives superman a beat down. How the hell did they make him a man?? and im getting tired of them just recycling other cast members from other shows or shows that failed. lets see some fresh faces

Doomsday is supposed to appeal to comic book geeks, not chicks! But I forget, CW only cares about their female viewers. Fanboys might tune in to watch Doomsday and say WTF when they see this dude! And then they’ll turn the channel.
Yeah, Cassidy Freeman isn’t what I expected for this role but I bet she can act! That’s a lot more important.
When does Smallville start shooting for Season 8?
June 22nd, 2008 at 5:32 pm
This really is wonderful news, at least to me. I enjoyed the death of Superman story-line from the early 90’s and I look forward to see how the producers choose to adapt the Doomsday character. I’d also like to point out how beautiful Cassidy Freeman is. Give her a chance, people! As a long time fan of the series, I can’t help but to feel a bit sad to see the show face its final season. The show has spread so much joy and happiness to the world. The new actors are so lucky to be a part of a show like Smallville.

Whoo hoo indeed!

With Lana half-gone next season, why do the producers and casting directors keep shoving all these blonds to Clark? Chloe is too much already! I had hoped “Tess” would be gorgeous and dark-haired like Clark, but I guess the line for actresses auditioning for “Tess” was a bit short. Next season should be focused more on Clark, after all, Smallville IS Clark! We don’t need to see another female messing him up! (Lois anyone?) However, if the producers and casting directors want to spice up Smallville, I hope it is Lana and Clark who will provide the gratuitous, steamy sex scenes of the season, considering Lana’s reduced screen time! Despite her inconsistent acting, Kristin Kreuk is still smokin’ hot and together with Tom Welling, they just burn!

CF is unreal. You only wish you knew here in real life. She caries the light of a star inside of her, that one.
June 30th, 2008 at 12:01 am
FYI Cassidy Freeman is one of the most beautiful people I know, inside and out - a girl with looks, brains and substance. All three are hard to find in such a shallow group of perfessionals. Smallville is f#$king lucking to have her!

I think that bringing in Doomsday might be a bit of a stretch, that is a portion of Clarks life that takes place much later. However they may want to try to give him some back story, to show everyone how he became the monster that we all know. Sort of like he evolved into something evil just as Lex did, maybe he didnt start out all evil like?!?! You never know. As far as the show is concerned I believe season eight is a conclusion for all of the true fans out there that need some closure.

i have to say that is the worse idea for a great villain i have ever heard…why do they have to make good stuff turn to shit….i mean really? doomsday a good looking guy and not the alien that put most of the JLA in the hospital
i mean really!!!!
