It’s NOT True!

Due to a technical glitch, a story confirming Team Palladino’s exit from Gilmore Girls was accidentally pushed live on TVGuide.com this morning. It has since been taken down. It’s not true. That story was prepared in the event they did decide to quit, but it was not supposed to go up until I got confirmation. Needless to say, I was mortified to come in this morning and see it up there. The info in today’s Ask Ausiello is the most up-to-date. Again, I’m sorry.

What an emotional rollercoaster the GG fans have been on lately! Yesterday was quite hectic with all the mixed signals and pulled stories and articles. Thanks for the correction, Mike. So, has it been confirmed that ASP and DP are, in fact, satying? My mind’s at ease now, just a little bit. Because there’s still the matter of the season finale… Heh.

  2. Jet Says:

OK - Somebody made a mistake - BUT, what is the real status on the discussions? Are there any specifically known issues?

IS there a single ticking point?

  3. Cap Says:

My mother, my daughter. My mother, my daughter ! Oy with the terrible news already !
Can you please confirm that this stupid cliffhanger is a big misunderstanding as well ?! - hey a fan can dream right ?!

  4. Um Says:

Heart attacks, here. Geez. Someone needs to decide something. I’m not sure fans can take much more. I know i can’t. (Sign, AS-P. Sign.)

There are lots of sighs of releif out there. Many fans adore Amy and Dan, and always will, despite a season or so of bad writing.
On the other side of the coin, there were more than a few people who said “Hooray!” when the news of Team P quitting was released. We all started picking our fantasy new head writer.
Amy Sherman-Palladino and Danial Palladino have given fans hour after hour of great TV, so for there to be this type of reaction from a section of fans speaks a lot to the ill will Team P (well, mostly Amy) has generated in the last few months; the spoiler about the finale just added to the animosity for her that was already there.
As for my feelings about this situation, I certainly wouldn’t be terribly unhappy if Amy and Dan left. I’d probably feel a little nostalgia. It would definately be a bittersweet departure. but if Team P decided to stay, I don’t guess it would be all that terrible.

  6. Bob the Builder Says:

Mike you know the real story, why don’t you just come out and say it. EW posted it and then retracted it. You posted it and then retracted it. Just come out and say it. It’s very easy. Repeat after me. The Palladinos will not be back next season.

  7. murphy Says:

I´m really happy, that there is still hope the Palladinos staying

  8. Jennifer Says:

I kind of hope that Palladinos don’t return next season. The way they have rocked L&L, causing them to behave in way that, to me, is totally inconsistent with their characters, is horrifying; they have artificially created drama rather than letting the drama happen naturally, as ASP has favored in the past. Perhaps a change in personnel on GG is warranted. I am especially dismayed by information about the season’s finale, which has me questioning whether or not I want to continue watching the show.

  9. Danielle Says:

Mike, please don’t do this again, the crazy internet people from Germany are going to be crazy because of you and ASP. I don’t believe anymore that Amy will be there for a 7th season and I guess you know it. Please make sure that we won’t have to wait the whole summer till we know for sure if Amy will come back or not. The last week was terrible enough.

  10. ann Says:

I think you know it, but you don’t have the permission to say anything, right? :D

  11. Tami Says:

Okay… everything that we heard about GG lately were bad news and now this? Please, just tell us what the hell is going on! We know you know, why can’t you just say it and end with our misery!

  12. Eve Says:

I don’t want ASP to leave, and I’d like the network to stop dicking her around. She is the show, and anybody who thinks another head writer will give them better Gilmore Girls is nuts and should hie themselves over to fanfiction.net and dig in with a fork and a spoon. I don’t particularly care to watch a show about a Lorelai-shaped cutout and a Luke-shaped cutout who schmoop all over the place. Sorry, no. The fangirls are ungrateful nuts.

  13. Lena Says:

MM what can i say? My last week was horroble. First we got this disgusting cliffhanger. Than we got to know what will happen to LL. And then the news that amy wants to leave the show after she turned it into a pile of rubble. Plus she wants to take Dan with her. >:( GREAT!

I want my ZEN back!!! Dammit!

  14. Jackie Says:

All this crazy-ness makes me realize that I DO want Team Palladino to stay. I think the show will take a huge hit without Amy and Dan.

  15. Josephine Says:

I really hope they decide to stay. Sure, some storylines of season six do really suck, especially the finale (although we don’t know for sure if it really is what it looks like). But let’s face it: The show wouldn’t be the same without the Palladinos as the creative force behind it.

  16. Lee Says:

Let them go - please. The show is pathetic this year. No fun, humor, heart - characters who don’t resemble the characters we came to love for five years just so ASP and Co. could twist them into her stupid, predictable storylines.

I’m no longer watching. But I keep tuned to what people are saying so I can decide if I want to ever watch again. With the finale news, the show is completely done for me. Lazy, uncreative writing.

Maybe ASP is so angry she lost her new show that she decided to tank this one to get back at the networks — I can’t imagine even new writers being able to fix this mess. She creates a disasterous finale and season and then bolts? Good.

  17. Tessa Says:

I almost had a freaking stroke last night when that aired and now you’re saying it’s not true???!!! Then what’s the truth. What is happening? this is driving me crazy!!

  18. K Says:

I admit that I had earlier stated that the show might be better off without Team P holding the reigns, but I soon regretted making such a statement. Yes, I am terribly disappointed with the way things have turned out really bad this season (particularly the season finale: regardless if ***** is the same as *** or not. The fact that she’s even THERE in the first place is horrible enough), but Team P might be the only ones that can fix this. Although, I have to admit, my faith in them is all but lost. There’s a lot they need to do: Give Rory her spine, bring back the townies that have been absent this season (there has not been enough of MamaKim!), give Lorelai her voice, give Luke his balls, send Christopher to Timbuktu (along with the his spawn), and so on and so on.

  19. Stephie Says:

I think the P’s will be back and clean up the mess. I’m not so sure the finale is as bad as we think. It’s a classic cliffhanger! Lorelei is there maybe because Chris was sick, the kid was sick, she was drunk, who knows? We’ll just have to wait and see…

  20. Helena Says:

You just gave every single GG fan in Brazil a heart attack. I can’t even imagine GG without ASP and DP. There is still hope for them.

  21. Um Says:

I think Ausiello should update us with something. Anything..

  22. Pat Says:

Good grief. Everybody needs to chill out! First, I shouldn’t have to be the only person to come to the defense of this season, especially when it hasn’t even finished yet. I loved the storyline at the beginning of the season with the fight between L-R. It was real. I also am a fan of the spawn of Luke storyline. It give everyone a chance to look and see that some people to handle everything perfectly. (Plus, the girl playing April is very good). What everybody needs to do is wait out the end of this season before writing about how much it has sucked! Why is that everyone who posts only posts negatives?! It’s so aggravating. I agree that Loralei has not acted like herself throughout her engagement to Luke, but come on. When have we ever even seen her in this position? Only the first season, and look how “rationale” she turned out regarding her wedding (or lack thereof) to Max. I’m just so tired of people only posting negative comments. And as for “Lee,” shut the f*** up if you’re not even watching anymore. Good riddance to you.

As for whether Team P comes back, its not like they’ll be gone from the GG world. I mean, honestly, you don’t think the team of writers will bounce ideas off them.

Hopefully there are some sane people out there who are not only about posting the negative. (Ausiello, that means you too!)

  23. Benj Says:

Give me a freakin’ heart attack with that news, then tell me it’s not true. Is this back-and-forth drama being written BY the Palladinos???

April coulda been a good storyline. Except Luke didn’t tell Lorelai. And Luke doesn’t seem to notice that he’s not introduced April to Lorelai. And Luke doesn’t seem as interested in marriage as he was last year.

Granted, he might’ve stopped from telling Lor in the beginning because Lor manages to take everything that happens to anyone and make it about herself. And Lor was allowed to put the wedding on hold while she dealt with the Rory fight.

Luke isn’t behaving like Luke, though this could lead to a great two-sided “Gilmore Girls” argument where both sides voice valid, arguable points.

I just wish they’d get on with it.

  24. barefootjim Says:

Imagine that: someone who dedicates his entire life to spoilers accidentally posting wrong unconfirmed in an rush to be first! Who’da thunk?

  25. Susan Says:

Sorry to anyone who had a heart attack over this. I didn’t see it and was confused with bickering (not on my part) on other boards b/c some people saw it and others didn’t. Now that I’ve read this I can tell others what happened so they can all agree it was a misunderstanding instead of arguing with each other. We GG fans are a rabid bunch ;) Hopefully the Palladino’s will reach an agreement soon and we can all hope they will rectify the problems with storylines and characters next season.

  26. Debbie Says:

As much as I hate this season and blame the P’s for it, I don’t want them to leave the show. I still believe that they have the talent to fix all of the problem they created with the series. If they stay, I hope that they start back to the formula that made this series great. GG is not a soap-opera. It is the character interaction that we really missed this year (and hot Luke/Lorelai scenes). I still think that team P is the best at this type of story.

  27. Cathy B Says:

I have a couple of criticisms for GG in an otherwise FABULOUS tv show: (1) there seems to be a profound lack of physical affection amongst the major and minor characters, e.g., Lorelei never ever seems to give her parents a kiss or hug (even a peck on the cheek would do nicely), yet I’m sure she has some affection for them because she clearly doesn’t HATE them (esp. her father); also, we never see much physical affection between Lorelei and Luke; also, for a mother and daughter who are ostensibly close, very little hugging and kissing to the point of almost nothing between Lorelei and Rory;also, affection at all between Richard and Emily Gilmore is non-existent;I don’t know if the Palladinos do this on purpose and there is a misguided and subconscious attempt to portray these people as “WASPS” and we all know (sarcastically)that WASPS never kiss, hug or touch! (2) Some of the writing by different writers have not kept the major characters true to form…they seem to be more like chess pieces being moved by writers than consistently writing and letting the characters evolve according to their nature…it seems as if things are being moved along, albeit without logic, to speed storyline up and get to a point where the series finally ends….NOT GOOD FORM!!!!

  28. J. Stone Says:

Awww Mike!!! Ya big tease. You had my hopes up there for awhile.

  29. Betsy Says:

Don’t worry. It happens to the best of us.

    Dick

That’s a link! LOL, that looks really bad doesn’t it?
